Choices

Friday 11th May 07 11:44pm

Lately there has been many reports of drink driving cases. The most prominent, one would agree is that of a well known local actor. What made this case stand out amongst the rest is that not only is he a well known personality, he failed to stop and render assistance to the victims.

His case has since been concluded and the verdict was a custodial sentence of 4 weeks, a monetary fine of SGD$4,500 and a driving ban of 3 years. After all is said and done, his case has been heard and judgement passed. But really, the price he has to pay and continues to do so way after his jail term is massive. Why?

As a contracted artiste in Mediacorp, most of his endorsements, appearences and or projects have to be handled by the company. In such dealings, his company is bounded to honour any terms as stated in any contract signed. Now that he is given a jail sentence, this can translate to huge financial losses to Mediacorp. It is also very likely that he could be sacked by Mediacorp too. This will effectively end his acting career. He will also have to live with a criminal record for the rest of his life. All these trouble, just because he wanted to go for supper. How "sway" can a person be right?

As a driver myself, i know how hard it is to obtain a drivers licence in the first instance.I really dread to think i may have to retake all the tests all over again should i lose my current licence. And i will boldly say this, drink drivers are just plain irresponsible. We always have a choice. No one can force you to drink unless you yourself give in. And if u do have to drink, jolly well make sure u already have a person driving u home or get a cab. It will be too late to regret and wake up when something does happen. Simply put, there is NO excuse for drink driving

Many people fail to realise that having a car in Singapore is really just a convinent tool to get from points A to B. Some people soup up their cars to look "fierce" on the roads, modify their engine speed and feels like a speed demon when they drive, weaving in and out, changing lanes adruptly etc etc. I have experienced all these first hand. Especially taxi drivers striving to earn that few extra dollars. Maybe we should give drivers who drink drive/drive recklessly a mandatory life ban on all classes of vehicals. That way, there may be less of such cases here.

Do you agree with me? No? Why? Yes? Why?

what do u think of this episode?

u can reply on my tagboard(its underused)
