Things

I have been too lazy to blog recently. Much has happened but i just did not have the mood to put in words the events that have transpired.
A few things, however, stayed strongly in my mind and i guess this is as good a time as ever to blog it in.
1. Section 377A.
There has been much talk around with regards to this issue. Now, obviously this topic is of interest to me. It's heartening to see that at long last, a proper debating forum on this issue can be held and actually concluded without any hiccups. Although i agree with the activist's view that this particular code should be abolished, i also understand that this will not happen and that even if it does, little will change. We have to remember one thing. Making something Legal does not in any way make it acceptable. A good example would be prostitution. It is legal for a man/woman to trade his/her body for cash in Singapore, as long as you are registered. (So far as i know. Anyone knows otherwise please let me know). But the main issue here is not if it is legal or not, rather, whether it is acceptable or not. I am sure no one will be proud to list his/her occupation as "Prostitute" right? Or, as a child telling your friends that your mother works as a prostitute? The same can be said for this case. So the law is changed, adult males and females can have consensual sex together without fear of the law. But this will open up a can of worms that even our own government may not be able to handle. I mean, once this law is passed, are we ready for what is to come? What if once the law is abolished, your brother/sister reveals to you that he/she is a homosexual? Your doctor reveals that he has been gay all along? The very doctor that has examined you, practically even seen ALL that you have to offer? What if it's your teacher? your coach? Your best friend?
Could you see yourself attending a gay wedding?
Could you HANDLE the truth and the aftermath of such a move in our legal system?
We need to ask ourselves: Can you accept homosexuals? Are you afraid of them? Do you hate them? Why do you reject homosexuals in the first place? Is it because the LAW says it's wrong? or do YOU feel it's wrong? If it's the latter, then i'm afraid any amount of bills and laws won't be able to change your mindset. Reading the forums in the straits times, i see many that are opposed to the abolishment of Section 377A. I wonder if these people have sons/daughters/friends/relatives/parents who are homosexuals. If they find out that they in fact do, would they still sing the same tune? or suddenly develop a more open view on the matter? Please remember my friends, homosexuals are also human beings that walk this earth and share the same air as any other human being. Just because they choose to love people of their own gender does not make them a bad person. Do you mean to say that "straight" guys who prey on women sexually are better because "At the very least they are straight?" If so, then maybe we should really look at our moral values again. Homosexual couples are able to have a good, fulfilling relationship with their partners if they are given the chance to. And there are many people who have ALREADY done so. Look beyond the sexual, and try to see the emotional aspect of this union between 2 people. Maybe then, you won't feel like throwing up or make sick faces so much.

Just a short comment of this. The 2nd season of CSS has been nothing but drama and suprises all the way, From the boy who sings like a bloody duck and still able to get into the top 10, to little shawn who is the only other one who can actually sing but was voted OFF the competition, to the most recent finals where the girl who sang like a broken record, even prompting one of the judges to say that it was torture to hear her sing but guess what, she STAYED. The way i see it, The CSS powers that be have already decided WHO will win this season. Think about it, Shawn was voted off before the revival round. The rest of those who got into the top 10 are Ok singers at best, with the exception of benjamin, who i must say, looks gay to me. Not to mention cute. LOL. So they are left with the revival round kids. They want to make SURE Shawn makes it at LEAST to the top 10, and give him as much space as they can to make him outshine in terms of vocals during the finals. So they vote him off, create a shock(More calls/smses), Get him into the revival (Kill off the rest of the competition so no one but HIM can come back), and then give him basically an ok group of singers to compete against.
You guys agree with my thinking?
3. Of the well and not so well.
Recently my area has been the hot spot for dengue fever. The NEA guys have been knocking on doors and spraying those smelly fumes EVERYWHERE. I mean, forget the mozzies.... they keep the fogging up, they might just KILL more people with the bloody fumes.
So i was abit worried when one of my Aikido junior fell sick during the weekend. I went to visit him and got much more then i bargained for. My junior lives in a 2 room flat (Hall, one room and kitchen). His mother is a clothes packer and his dad has left both him and his mother to fend for themselves. The moment i stepped into the house, i was hit by a wave of hardship. I don't know how to describe this feeling but it's almost like you feel alot of pressure on your chest, yet somehow there is also a force pushing out of you at the smae time.
How much money can a single mother earn packing clothes? Having to bring up a teenage child? Providing him with computer, handphone and most recently, Aikido lessons, not to mention the obvious food, schooling and clothing needs? My junior's mother, despite all that, was willing to take a day off without pay just so that she can look after her sick son. I was ashamed, humbled. Truely, their lives cannot be a smooth one. I thought about the Vaio laptop i have at home. That piece of equipment itself is worth one, if not two months of the mother's salary. Yet, with the cost of a laptop, the mother can provide for her family for at LEAST 2 months. And then there are people who, on first look, comment on their blog that those are "hopeless" kids. Maybe when this person changes roles with my junior, he will see a different picture. Dun get me wrong, i am not trying to bring anyone down, all i am saying is that, sometimes, we as humans are too quick to judge. Perhaps we should learn how to give everyone his/her space and respect, unless proven otherwise?
Don't you agree?
